Thrane & Thrane looks to future of cockpit connectivity possibilities at NBAA

At this year's NBAA, leading satellite communications equipment manufacturer Thrane & Thrane is highlighting capabilities of its AVIATOR SwiftBroadband portfolio to support a host of cockpit connectivity applications. To demonstrate the possibilities of bringing wireless connectivity into the cockpit via the AVIATOR terminal's built-in Wi-Fi, the company is showcasing iPads at its booth (C10822) which include several cockpit-friendly applications including real-time weather, flight planning and crew voice services.

As well as providing 'office-in-the-sky' capabilities for passengers, wireless connectivity is increasingly aiding pilots and crew in the cockpit. By providing Wi-Fi aboard, Thrane & Thrane's AVIATOR solutions support the connection of iPads and other Wi-Fi enabled devices to offer a multitude of capabilities for pilots and crew to manage their workload on the flight deck by providing real-time access to the most current weather, flight planning and chart information at any time anywhere in the world.

"The application for Wi-Fi enabled technology including iPads®, iPhones® and Blackberrys® reaches far beyond passenger use in the cabin and we are increasingly seeing its application in the cockpit. With Wi-Fi enabled AVIATOR SwiftBroadband systems on-board, flight crews are able to use smart phones and tablets to access a wide range of data and information at their fingertips," comments Andy Beers, Director of Aeronautical Sales Americas, Thrane & Thrane. "Our booth at this year's NBAA will feature several iPads with cockpit-friendly applications offering visitors the opportunity to test the possibilities for themselves."

Whatever the requirement for wireless connectivity, Thrane & Thrane's AVIATOR portfolio offers a range of SwiftBroadband products which feature built-in Wi-Fi to support in-flight use of smart phones and tablets. Offering a solution to meet a wide range of customer needs in terms of bandwidth, equipment size and budget, the AVIATOR range includes the AVIATOR 700 and AVIATOR 350 High Gain Antenna (HGA) options, AVIATOR 300 with Intermediate Gain Antenna (IGA) as well as the exceptionally compact and lightweight AVIATOR 200 Low Gain Antenna (LGA),
