Thrane & Thrane's Aviator 200 brings swiftbroadband to smaller business aircraft users

Since its launch at EBACE last year the Thrane & Thrane AVIATOR 200 has received three Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) which approve its installation on a range of smaller aircraft and include the use of Wi-Fi™ aboard. The AVIATOR 200 was the first to be launched in-line with the Inmarsat SwiftBroadband SB200 service and one year on remains the only system to have STC approval, confirming Thrane & Thrane's position at the forefront of the aeronautical satellite communications industry.

"The AVIATOR 200 offers a range of exciting capabilities particularly to smaller aircraft. With business jet travellers frequently required to stay connected while on the move, the AVIATOR 200 offers the ideal solution enabling executives to send emails and make calls so they can stay on top of business during the flight," comments Kim Gram, Vice President of Thrane & Thrane's Aeronautical Business Unit. "We are delighted that since its launch last year the AVIATOR 200 has already received three STCs. With other certifications currently in progress the AVIATOR 200 will continue to bring SwiftBroadband to a much broader range of aircraft."

As part of the development of a STC for Citation 525/525A (CJ1/CJ2) jets which was received earlier this month the AVIATOR 200 was installed and tested aboard 'D-INER', a CJ1 525 owned by Jarltech CEO Ulrich Spranger. Since its installation, the AVIATOR 200 has enabled Spranger to increase productivity and efficiency of his business, allowing him and his team to work from the aircraft when flying between company offices.

Spranger comments: "The AVIATOR 200 is a great system for smaller aircraft. It is very easy to integrate with the aircraft and has the capability to improve productivity for business executives who regularly travel, which made it a deal maker in the purchase of D-INER."

Thrane & Thrane's AVIATOR 200 simultaneously provides data speeds up to 200 kbps and a single AMBE 2 channel for voice calls, enabling users to take advantage of a wide range of office-in-the-sky services including calling, emailing and web browsing. With built-in Wi-Fi capability, the AVIATOR 200 makes it extremely easy for aircraft operators to offer wireless connectivity aboard, to support the use of Wi-Fi enabled devices such as laptops, tablets and smart phones.

To date the AVIATOR 200 has received STCs for use aboard:

• Beechcraft King Air 200

• Cessna 500, 550, S550, 552, 560, and 560XL

• Citation 525/525A (CJ1/CJ2)
