Press Release
Issued by Norwich Airport.
August 9, 2010
Plans for a £6m centre to support business travellers at Norwich International Airport have been approved following an application by charter firm Saxonair.
The Business Aviation Centre is aimed at meeting the growing need for premium class flights and local business travel.
As well as providing a base for Saxonair's private jet and helicopter charter operations, the centre will include a VIP lounge and facilities for business travellers, a reception area, rest facilities for crew and offices for Saxonair staff.
It is aimed at meeting the needs of a growing population and workforce in Norwich, and demand for improved charter services from sectors including finance, retail, media and life sciences.
Along with two new proposed hangars, the centre will also replace Saxonair's existing facilities in a single location, providing a base for 63 staff.
As well as company executives, Saxonair's customers who are expected to use the centre include pop stars, film and TV personalities, government officials and heads of state.
Established in 2007, Saxonair operates a fleet of five helicopters and private jets from Norwich, with further craft based in Edinburgh and Redhill, Surrey.
The application for the centre was submitted by property consultants Bidwells on behalf of Saxonair, and work is due to start immediately on the centre, which will be operational by the end of March 2011.
If the centre is a success it is hoped the company will launch further hubs in other parts of the country.
