Avio Aero launches hybrid-electric tech demonstration in Europe

The Clean Aviation agreement awards around €34m to a consortium led by Avio Aero to develop the AMBER demonstrator, whose electric motor will be powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
Final preparations are underway to integrate liquid hydrogen tanks into HY4 aircraft ahead of a rigorous programme of ground testing. This will radically boost the range of hydrogen powered aircraft.

Having grown out of a partnership between the German Aerospace Center and the University of Ulm, H2Fly has demonstrated hydrogen fuel cell technology in aviation. It will draw on the expertise of Deutsche Aircraft.
