Waypoint Airmed and Rescue 2010 – the one stop shop for SAR, HEMs, fixed wing activity - debuts at Oxford Airport

London Oxford Airport is playing host to the debut Waypoint Airmed and Rescue 2010 conference and exhibition during September 8-9th. The event, which is taking place in the airport's Hangar 11, and the Oxford Aviation Academy lecture theatre, is targeting fixed wing and helicopter operators, together with associated companies all involved in the life-saving business of medevac operations. There will be over 200 attendees, including the US Army, Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing, IBM UK, Honeywell, AirMed, Sloane Helicopters and the British Helicopter Advisory Board.

London Oxford Airport reports it is currently handling at least one medevac flight every day. AirMed is Oxford-based with a worldwide AOC to carry out air ambulance work with its nine-strong fleet, including two newly obtained stretcher-equipped Learjet 35As capable of flying to the Canaries and back in one crew shift.

Emphasising the importance of these services The Thames Valley Air Ambulance service will be based at the exhibition for the duration of the show, and will be fully operational throughout. Other prominent operators are Exeter-based Capital Air Charter and Farnborough-based Gama which handles air ambulance work with its King Airs; invariably they are taking patients to the John Radcliffe and Stoke Mandeville hospitals, mainly cardiac-related. Capital conducts European repatriation, holds the contract for Jersey-UK mainland repatriation, and recently won the Isle of Man contract too. Woodgate Aviation is a regular visitor from Ireland.

"This new educational event will serve to underline the importance of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft in this hugely important social utility role," said Waypoint Managing Editor Ian Cameron. "Attendees can learn about new technology, products and services and be able to meet with representatives from all levels of aero-medical operations – in fixed wing air ambulance, HEMs, the military, coast guard, state and national law enforcement agencies, fire departments, medical equipment OEMs and mountain rescue ground operators."

The two-day event is free for all aviation industry professionals. It will include a static display of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, plus a live demonstration from RAF Valley 22nd Squadron Sea Kings. Sponsors are AirMed, Spectrum Aeromed and Medical Aviation Supplies.

Waypoint magazine, part of Voyageur Publishing, is the key industry tile for the aero-medical and rescue industry. Primary readership includes medical directors, chief pilots and CEOs as well as the top brass and logistic officers for the state/armed forces.
