SPAES develops cowling cutout for Tiger Tug on H130

SPAES, a German Part 21J Design Organization and Part 21G Manufacturing Organization, has designed and certified a minor change modification for the belly skin of the Airbus H130 helicopter to ensure compatibility with the Tiger Tugs 8.0 and 8.0B model helicopter tugs. SPAES' customer implemented the modification based on the SPAES design and certification.

The belly skin of the H130 must be cut out in the area of the rear cross members to ensure the HeliSaddles of the Tiger Tugs 8.0 and 8.0B models can rest correctly on the supports. Before the modification, it was intact and covered the rear cross members, preventing secure support. After cutting, the belly skin allows for a correct fit, allowing the Tiger Tug system to function effectively.

SPAES' scope of work included design development, certification and approval of the modification, while the customer carried out the physical implementation. The modification included electrical installations, sheet metal fabrication of the outer skin and airframe, and the manufacturing of custom sheet metal components and brackets.

"This modification ensures that H130 operators can efficiently deploy the Tiger Tug model for safe and reliable ground movement," said Joachim Kies, head of operations at SPAES. "Our team has provided the necessary design and certification expertise to enable a smooth adaptation."
