Carl Hirschmann, son of Jet Aviation's founder Carl W. Hirschmann, is dead at 61

Carl Hirschmann, the eldest son of the founder of Jet Aviation, Carl W. Hirschmann (1920 – 1995), passed away on July 30 at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland of an undisclosed illness. He was 61.

Carl Hirschmann (1949 – 2010) died on July 30, 2010, at the University Hospital in Zurich. He was the eldest son of Jet Aviation's founder Carl W. Hirschmann. Carl Hirschmann joined Jet Aviation in 1975 and served as the company's CEO in the early 1980s, until 1984.

In 2005, when Jet Aviation was acquired by private equity firm Permira, he continued to be a minority shareholder in the company. From May 2006 until November 2008, he was member of the board as vice- chairman at Jet Aviation Holding AG, the holding company of the Jet Aviation Group of Companies, before the firm was sold to General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) in November 2008. In addition, in March 2007, Carl Hirschmann stepped in during a critical time for the company taking on the role as interim CEO before he was succeeded by Peter G. Edwards in May 2007, who currently serves as President of the Jet Aviation Group.

"I am greatly saddened to learn about the death of Carl Hirschmann. I had the privilege of working with him when I joined Jet Aviation in 2007. He always represented the strong principles and values of Jet Aviation. Carl also maintained a strong customer focus and was able to build relationships with Jet Aviation's key clients around the world," said Peter G. Edwards, president of the Jet Aviation Group. "My condolences, and the condolences of the entire Jet Aviation family, are extended to the Hirschmann family," he adds.
