Metrojet Engineering Clark (MEC), the Philippines-based maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) station of Hong Kong's Metrojet Limited, is proud to announce that it has become the first authorised dealer in southeast Asia for SpaceX's Starlink, enabling it to sell and install the cutting-edge Starlink satellite system for business aviation users.
Starlink, developed by SpaceX, delivers high-speed internet access through a network of satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This global coverage delivers connectivity almost anywhere in the world, offering speeds sufficient to support in-flight video conferencing, streaming and online gaming. As the demand for reliable in-flight internet continues to grow, MEC is at the forefront of introducing this technology to users in southeast Asia.
Mr Rudgen Guzman, general manager of Metrojet Engineering Clark, stated, “The need for seamless in-flight connectivity is especially critical in the APAC region. Our clients operate on a global scale, and reliable internet access has become a necessity. The market potential for Starlink is significant. We've already received numerous requests, and we anticipate this will not only drive growth but also expand our customer base for maintenance operations at Clark. With Starlink now part of our portfolio, MEC aims to deliver innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of business aviation.”
The installation process involves equipping the aircraft with a Starlink aero terminal on the fuselage and integrating the hardware into its systems. With download speeds per terminal ranging from 40-220 Mbps and upload speeds of 8-25 Mbps, Starlink surpasses traditional in-flight Wi-Fi services, offering unparalleled performance.
Metrojet Engineering Clark currently operates a 7,100 sqm hangar at Clark International Airport providing both hangar and ramp parking and a fully authorised repair station with approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority of The Philippines (CAAP), the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Cayman Islands CAA, the Qatar QCAA, the Isle of Man CAA, the San Marino CAA, the Korea MOLIT and the Indonesia DGCA.
