Press Release
Issued by Leeds Bradford International Airport Ltd.
September 5, 2007
The former head of Bristol and Newcastle airports, John Parkin, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of Leeds Bradford International Airport ("LBIA") with effect from 10 September 2007. Mr. Parkin, a Yorkshireman aged 52, replaces Ed Anderson who announced in May his decision to stand down after a decade at the region's largest airport.
Sir Graham Hall, Chairman of LBIA said: "John Parkin has an outstanding track record of managing and expanding highly successful regional airports. Our airport plays a vital role in the economy of the region and with John's leadership, we will now move to an intensive phase of growth and development."
John Parkin commented: "LBIA is at an exciting point in its development with new routes and a major expansion of the terminal in the pipeline. I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead this process with the LBIA team and to begin to unlock the airport's full potential."
In May 2007, LBIA was sold to European private equity firm Bridgepoint in a transaction totalling £145.5 million following a decision by five West Yorkshire councils to sell 100% of the share capital in the airport. Under the Bridgepoint strategic plan for the airport, a £70 million capital expenditure plan will be implemented to provide additional terminal capacity to accommodate anticipated growing passenger volumes and to meet more immediate infrastructure requirements.
