Lombard becomes first lender to register an aircraft mortgage in Isle of Man

Lombard Manx, part of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, has become the first lender to register a mortgage on the new Isle of Man Aircraft Register which was launched in May this year.

Mike King, Relationship Director Aviation and Marine with Lombard Manx, who handled the financing for the purchase of a US$6.0m Citation Jet for an existing client explained that the new Isle of Man Aircraft Registry has been attracting much favourable comment within the aviation world and it will now compete with some of the other major offshore registers such as Bermuda and Cayman Islands.

The Isle of Man register is independent of the UK CAA aircraft register and uses the 'M' prefix followed by four characters which mirrors the format of most European registers. The new registry only accepts aircraft operated in the private category and the focus will be primarily on quality private and corporate jets.

Mike went on to say that "the Isle of Man has a successful shipping and super-yacht register and we are very hopeful that the new aircraft registry will mirror this success. The Isle of Man can now provide the first dedicated corporate aircraft register service in a European time zone making it convenient for users across the world that will also benefit from the island's stable political and economic environment".
