Dornier 328 Jet debuts at London City Airport

On Wednesday, 1 August, a Dornier 328 Jet made its first commercial flight into London City Airport, flying from Reykjavik, Iceland on a private charter with executive jet operator, IceJet.

Dornier 328 Serial No 3220, which has been modified for Steep Approach, Flight Level 35 and Extended Range capability by 328 Support Services in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, touched down mid afternoon after a two hour 50 minute flight from Iceland.

IceJet's Dornier 328 TF-NPA features a luxurious 'Envoy' interior – in a 14-seat layout (eight club seats and six regular seats).   Further customisation by 328 Support includes the addition of walnut veneered cabinets, wardrobe, stowages and galley.

"We anticipate more demand for London City Airport," commented Operations Director Senior First Officer Jon Ingi Jonsson who piloted the aircraft on its 5.5 degree approach to London's premier business airport.  "IceJet is the first 328 Jet operator in the world certificated for steep approaches such as London City."  IceJet will return to London City as early as Sunday, on another charter from Iceland.

328 Support in Germany is close to completion on two further 328 Jets for associated company MIKADO CAPITAL (Serial Numbers 3149 and 3161).   The last aircraft, which has already been sold, will feature the addition of long range fuel tanks, enabling a 2,000 nm range. The option to fit these tanks is only available from 328 SSG and can either be fitted as part of the conversion, or as a retrofit solution.

328 Support Services CEO Dave Jackson confirmed at the EBACE show in Geneva in May that the company was  busy responding to requests for interior conversions from a number of new customers for up to 10 further aircraft.  It is working on offering five possible cabin layouts, as well as the current 'Envoy' layout.   328 SSG is also working on the refurbishment of 328 Jet Serial No 3206 and Serial No 3221, one of the last production aircraft.

Created in January 2006 as the new German subsidiary of the UK's Corporate Jet Services Ltd, 328 Support Services GmbH holds the type certificate for the Dornier 328 Jet and Turboprop aircraft.  It provides worldwide support to a fleet in excess of 200 aircraft.  At its Oberpfaffenhofen Airport, near Munich, Germany base, its 100-strong workforce offer full maintenance and engineering work, customer support, spare parts and technical services together with aircraft modernisation, retrofit and customisation work.
