Duncan Aviation is pleased to announce that Chris VanderWeide has accepted the position as Chief Inspector for Foreign Airworthiness. Duncan Aviation recently created this position to support an increasing number of global customers. As a result, these customers will experience a streamlined process to their visit, particularly in the planning stages and with regards to major repairs or alterations. Work performed on foreign-registered aircraft must be in accordance with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of that country. Depending on the scope of the work, there is a varying degree of research needed to determine the requirements of a country's CAA with regards to approving data, the work itself and the aircraft's ultimate return to service. In the past, Duncan Aviation has completed this work through the efforts of several different people; the position of Chief Inspector for Foreign Airworthiness was formed to be the central point of contact for all of these issues. “It is our intent to further enhance our reputation for providing our customers with proposals that are not only competitive but comprehensive,” said VanderWeide. “We want our global customers to know they are making the right choice with Duncan Aviation, that we're knowledgeable not only on their aircraft but also the regulatory needs of their CAA.” VanderWeide started his aviation career by obtaining his A&P license after studying at LeTourneau College and Western Michigan University. He then spent five years with the United States Air Force before joining Duncan Aviation in 1988. VanderWeide started as an airframe technician and rose to the position of QA Team Lead. In 2007, he accepted the position as Chief Inspector for Great Lakes Aviation. While in that position, he successfully coordinated inspection personnel, completed the repair station certification process and handled many other regulatory duties that a repair station requires. VanderWeide also obtained his Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR) certificate from the FAA and has handled numerous imports and exports. VanderWeide will be based at Duncan Aviation’s Battle Creek facility and can be reached by calling +1 269.565.3595.
