Barco, a leader in display and visualization solutions for selected professional markets, announces that Norway's air navigation service provider Avinor has selected Barco's arrival management system for three airports in southeast Norway including Oslo's Gardermoen airport. The contract includes the integration of Barco's OSYRIS Arrival Manager software with the Norwegian air traffic control system, enabling the efficient management of arrival air traffic within the Oslo Area Of Responsibility (AoR). As part of the contract, Barco will take responsibility for providing the safety case to the Norwegian regulator.
"Barco's OSYRIS Arrival Manager software meets all technical and operational requirements as well as the Safety Management and Quality Assurance objectives." said Kristian Pjaaten, Project Team Manager at Avinor. Mr. Kristian Pjaaten continued, "Avinor visited an existing Barco customer and judged the OSYRIS Arrival Manager software the most user-friendly and the most mature Arrival Manager on the market."
Barco's OSYRIS Arrival Manager is part of the OSYRIS COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) product suite that has a proven operational track record and has been designed based on ANSP (Air Navigation Service Provider) requirements and industry research.
For this project, the application software will be tailored to meet the specific operational requirements and procedures of Oslo's Gardermoen airport. The arrival management system will handle active advice generation, even within the approach area, and flexible runway allocation. Thanks to its excellent portability and open interfaces, the OSYRIS Arrival Manager can be smoothly integrated with the current ATC (Air Traffic Control) system.
Furthermore, the graphical user interface will be built on Barco's highly reliable, high-performance ODSToolbox (Operational Display System) drawing components. Avinor has already implemented Barco's ODSToolbox software for operational display systems throughout most of Norway.
"We acknowledge the confidence Avinor has placed in us in helping them to build state-of-the-art systems that seamlessly integrate in their operational environments." said Frank Koehne, Market Director ATM at Barco's Security and Monitoring Division. Mr. Koehne continued, "The selection by Avinor further underlines Barco's position as a leading supplier of safety critical ATM (Air Traffic Management) software."
Barco's OSYRIS Arrival Manager has become the arrival management application of choice for air navigation service providers, research organizations and system integrators worldwide, including Eurocontrol, Skyguide Switzerland, CAA of Singapore, NAV Canada, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The OSYRIS Arrival Manager forms the kernel of CALM, Skyguide's Computer-assisted Approach and Landing Management System, which went operational at Zurich's Kloten airport in March 2001. Most recently, OSYRIS was selected by CAA of Singapore for Singapore's Changi airport, and the system is now in operation.
The Arrival Manager at Oslo's Gardermoen airport is expected to be fully operational on current airspace in early 2009, and on the new Point Merge System by 2010.
