Honeywell expands satellite TV coverage for business jet operators

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) introduced today an upgrade to its original business jet satellite TV system that will allow operators to receive free-to-air satellite TV in three additional regions: China, India and Russia.

"This new capability allows operators to enjoy the same level of TV service they would have on the ground in these expanded coverage areas," said Rob Wilson, president, Business and General Aviation, Honeywell Aerospace. "Additionally, operators of the existing Honeywell AIS-1000 system can update the receiver software of their existing modules by downloading the software via the Internet."

Honeywell's AIS-2000 system typically works with the aircraft's existing cabin management system to provide control (display, channel selection and volume). The software update provides the ability to receive free-to-air broadcasts in Eastern China via the Apstar6 satellite, in Russia via the EutelsatW4 satellite and in the sub-continent of India via the Insat4B satellite. Europe, the Middle East and Africa were included in the initial release of the AIS-2000 system.

Honeywell's system features up to six independent receivers for individual passenger viewing and control, a design that allows for simple configuration without the need for re-wiring or additional LRUs to obtain TV coverage in these new regions. The AIS-2000 also uses the smallest and lightest antenna available today.
