Midcoast Aviation recently completed high-speed data equipment installations on two Global Express aircraft. Both avionics work scopes were a first for the company on this aircraft model.
The first project required Midcoast Aviation avionics technicians to integrate Honeywell's MCS-7147 SwiftBroadband satellite communications system with TrueNorth Avionics' Simphone Chorus cabin telecommunication system, utilizing TrueNorth's high-speed data router. This is the first time Midcoast Aviation installed these two technologies in combination. The resulting integrated cabin communications suite provides worldwide airborne Internet service for all Wi-Fi devices (Laptop, iPhone, Blackberry) at speeds approaching DSL quality.
"The combination of the Honeywell and TrueNorth systems allowed us to connect an IP-based Iridium phone system with an IP-based router," states Skip Madsen, vice president MRO operations at Midcoast Aviation. "Because we were able to use TrueNorth's integrated router, we did not have to install a standard router which resulted in both time and cost savings for our customer."
The second Global Express aircraft was outfitted with the new Aircell ATG 5000 High Speed Internet System. The Aircell system provides the operator with domestic Wi-Fi access at 3G speed.
"Midcoast is rapidly establishing a reputation as an industry leader in high-speed data system installations," says Madsen. "We've installed a variety of systems on a wide variety of aircraft including Gulfstream IV, Challenger 604, Challenger 605, Falcon 2000, Falcon 900EX and Falcon 50EX. Clients are really benefiting from the enhanced productivity they now experience in their aircraft."
