Press Release
Issued by Universal Avionics, an Elbit Systems company.
July 6, 2007
Universal Avionics announces the first ever FAA STC certification for its EFI-890R Display retrofit into a Gulfstream G-III on 25-June-2007 by IFR Avionics, Inc. in Van Nuys, CA. The G-III has also been equipped with Universals Synthetic Vision System "Vision-1TM", the Application Server Unit providing Jeppesen™ Charts for a paperless cockpit and interfaced with dual UNS-1 Flight Management Systems' and Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) Class A. This FAA STC encompasses Gulfstream Models G-II, G-IIB and G-III.
Universal's synthetic vision system allows the pilot to see a computer generated rendering of the terrain ahead of the aircraft and is designed for the EFI-890R Primary Flight Display (PFD). The system maintains the standard foreground symbology with traditional flight director cues and replaces the blue/brown background with heading, pitch and roll oriented color terrain imagery in real time. The EFI-890R Navigation Display (ND) provides a view of the aircraft, flight plan and terrain from a position situated behind, above and to the right of the aircraft (wingman position). JeppView™ Charts for a paperless cockpit, weather graphics and TAWS Terrain Awareness & Warning System are also displayed on the EFI-890R Navigation Display.
"This project is especially gratifying when you can take a great airframe like the G-III, update the avionics with the latest technology and hand the customer an aircraft ready to meet FAA requirements for many years to come," said Jim Lauer President of IFR Avionics. "We look forward to upgrading more G-III's with glass cockpits from Universal Avionics."
