Airmont introduces its streaming services on Apple TV

Airmont is successfully allowing VIP aircraft passengers to watch their live streaming content over their aircraft's internet connection thanks to Airmont streaming services. Airmont streaming services are now available on Apple TV making it straighforward to evaluate and deploy on a small scale the access to video streaming on board business jets.

Headquartered in Ermont, France, Airmont develops software and services to offer seamless digital experience in an increasingly mobile world. Embedding the latest innovations and supported by the recognised expertise of its engineering teams, its on-the-move platform enables highly demanding users to remain fully connected while on land, sea and air throughout the world.

The company's service allows the passengers of business liners and private jets to enjoy live TV shows or video streams without any buffering while on low bandwidth internet access. Also, their own private mobile devices can mirror ready content onto the TV screen while still experiencing good quality with little data use. The aircraft operator can minimise their aircraft's internet data plan while increasing the number of passengers watching streaming content.

Some VIP aircraft make use of Apple TV onboard as a loose equipment, the same way passengers use their laptops during flight. However, the bandwidth required by the onboard Apple TV makes it difficult to provide a satisfactory experience. The Airmont player app on Apple TV provides a Chromecast-like experience to the passengers while compressing and optimising the video streaming to use a fraction of the bandwidth that an Apple TV would use. It also allows crew to change the video quality to bring the required bandwidth on the internet link down to 310 kbps per stream.

With this evolution Airmont expects to generalise the video streaming experience on board business jets.
