SkyTrac Systems wins contracts from major helicopter operators for Iridium-Based flight following and satellite communication systems

SkyTrac Systems, an Iridium® Satellite LLC value-added reseller, has recently won a number of contracts to supply its Iridium-based automatic flight following (AFF) and satellite communication systems for major helicopter fleets around the world.

SkyTrac's rapidly growing customer list includes Yellowhead Helicopters, Skyline Helicopters and Pacific Western Helicopters, all in British Columbia, as well as the Calgary City Police Air Services, Los Angeles County Fire Department and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company.

"Iridium continues to build an impressive market share in aeronautical satellite communications for the world's helicopter fleets," said Greg Ewert, executive vice president of Iridium Satellite. "This is largely due to the innovative products being brought to market by our value-added partners such as SkyTrac. Their solutions help to meet the mission-critical requirements for AFF, providing voice and data links for helicopters that operate in remote areas not effectively served by other communication networks."

Kathleen Wallace, president and CEO of SkyTrac Systems, commented, "SkyTrac's Iridium-based system begins with economical AFF compliance and then offers much more in terms of reliable and innovative satellite communication solutions. Our newly redesigned Dispatch Voice Interface, as well as our proprietary FlightTrac software suite, including our new SkyWeb Internet solution, meets the needs of today's helicopter fleet operators."

Gary Forman, president and CEO of Yellowhead Helicopters commented, "While AFF reporting was obviously a contributing factor in the decision to equip our fleet with a flight following system, SkyTrac Systems also provided simple, economical solutions to other mission requirements, as well as voice capability."

Captain Stephen A. Fincken, helicopter fleet replacement leader for Brunei Shell Petroleum Company, said, "It was important for us to find a one-stop solution, without compromising our stringent computer security policies here at Shell. SkyTrac Systems was willing to provide us with a global turnkey solution."
