Otonomy Aviation presents first prototype of onboard 4K camera

Otonomy Aviation, the specialist in optronic equipment and camaera and sensor systems for business aviation, is to present the first proof of concept 4K camera purpose built for this sector at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE)

The company develops equipment, such as cameras, video management boxes, control panels, sensors and batteries, and systems to offer customers its Parabellum and Sentinel ground control services and Visionomy n-flight (service. The company has international certifications (AS9100, Part 21 and Part 145), and has found a place in the surveillance and security as well as entertainment markets thanks to 360° images retransmitted inside the aircraft, both in the cockpit and in the passenger cabin.

After being the first to develop a full HD 1080 aeronautical onboard camera, the company and its integrated design office are presenting a new prototype for a 4K camera with multiple objectives: to support customers in their innovation to provide the best possible performance, but also to increase the camera’s functionality (viewing angle, resolution, speed and quality), to expand its usage modes as better resolution improves analysis and performance).

A tier 1 supplier in aeronautics, the company, which was established in 2007 near Bordeaux with additional presence in the United States, is in full development: it secures 2.35 million euros of fundraising last April, entering two French investment funds, Ouest Croissance and Expanso Capital, alongside its historic partner Sofimac Régions;. A fifth framework contract with an aircraft manufacturer is to be announced in June and construction of a new production site near Bordeaux is to be completed in early 2020, doubling staff numbers within two to three years.

With more than 500 in-flight cameras to date, Otonomy Aviation has an annual turnover of €4 million, having doubled in just two years. All of this turnover comes from export markets (United States 70% of turnover, Germany 15% and Switzerland 15%), with four major customers (Gulfstream, Dassault, Lufthansa and Comlux). The company currently holds 36% of the market share, and aims to become the leader of the sector by 2025 in a market where 700 business jets are delivered each year.
