Press Release
Issued by Sheltair Aviation.
October 11, 2018
Sheltair, one of the nation's leading privately-owned aviation development companies, has activated its hurricane recovery plan at its Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) facility near Panama City following the departure of Hurricane Michael from the Florida Panhandle.
“Sheltair has long recognised the potential threat to our airport facilities from severe weather as well as the need to resume operations quickly to support recovery efforts within hours of a storm's departure,” stated Sheltair's chairman, CEO and founder Jerry Holland.
“Accordingly, our company has activated a comprehensive recovery plan for the specific purpose of supporting any and all emergency aviation operations that need access to our ramp at ECP,” he explained.
Prior to the hurricane, Sheltair released all non-essential personnel while working with appropriate airport authorities to ensure that aircraft, support equipment, and structures were prepared for historic hurricane force winds.
“We know from prior experiences with severe weather throughout our FBO network that each storm is different and can `attack' an aviation facility in unexpected ways. We also know the importance of the ability to recover from a catastrophic storm in the shortest period of time because airports become even more important following weather emergencies. As a result, our team is now ready to assist first responders at ECP,” noted Warren Kroeppel, chief operating officer.
With limited power at ECP, Sheltair is diverting phone calls from general aviation customers to a remote location and will continue to answer calls and provide updated information until Sheltair ECP is available to non-emergency aviation. It asks that all operational requests be emailed to ecphurricaneinfo@sheltairaviation.com. Sheltair Florida locations open and standing by to serve and support operations are: DAB, FLL, LAL, OCF, PIE, PMP and SPG.
