Today Munich Airport officially opened a new border inspection post with a small animal station for the handling of cross-border cargo traffic. Effective immediately, this facility will serve as the "point of entry" for dogs, cats, reptiles, birds and ornamental fish entering the country under the watchful eye of veterinary specialists. It will also perform screening of foodstuffs of animal origin such as fish and meat products. On hand to celebrate the handover of the symbolic keys to the new building were (left to right): Andreas Bergmann (FMG Freight Marketing Department), Gabriele Pace (the airport's Protestant chaplain), Sebastian Lenz (the Catholic deacon), Andreas von Puttkamer (the head of the Aviation Division of FMG), Dr. Michael Kerkloh (the CEO of FMG) holding a four-footed visitor, Peter Trautmann (the COO of FMG), Roger Scheifele (managing director of FMG's Cargogate subsidiary), Dr. Sabine Kleeberg-Ruppert (veterinarian and head of the new border inspection post) and Max Lermer, the head of the Munich Central Customs Office for the Airport.
