Multiflight flight training for UK's largest independent cargo carrier gets off to flying start

There were celebrations at the Multiflight Flight Training Centre at Leeds Bradford International Airport as flight training for cadet pilots of the UK's largest independent cargo carrier, Atlantic Airlines, got off to a flying start.

Cadet pilots Miguel Cooper and Alastair Yardy upheld the tradition of signing of a picture of an Electra aircraft and received celebratory bottles of champagne as they successfully completed their commercial flight training at Multiflight. They are the first two cadet pilots to complete their commercial flight training with Multiflight since the West Yorkshire company was selected from a host of other UK flight training centres to run Atlantic Airlines' Cadet Pilot Programme/Sponsorship Scheme.

"Both Miguel and Alastair have been star students and have completed their Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL), Multi Engine Piston Rating (MEP), Instrument Rating (IR) and Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC) training with us here at Multiflight within three months," says Mike McKenzie, Multiflight Flight Training Centre Manager.

"We were very pleased to have been chosen by Atlantic Airlines to run the selection and training of their cadets. It is testament to the quality of the flight training we provide and the caliber of the flight training team here that we were selected above other UK flight training centres."

Russell Ladkin, Managing Director of Atlantic Airlines, comments: "Multiflight is a first class flight training centre and the perfect partner to run our cadet pilot scheme."

Cadet pilot Alastair says: "Multiflight offers a highly organised, professional flight training environment and you couldn't wish for anywhere better to do your flight training. The Multiflight team is extremely helpful and always on hand to help and support you."

The Atlantic Airlines Cadet Pilot Programme/Sponsorship Scheme is designed to take aspiring trainee pilots who hold a valid Private Pilot's Licence (PPL), and meet rigorous selection criteria, to the issue of an Airline Transport Pilot's Licence (ATPL).

The Atlantic Airlines' scheme is unique in that it is totally funded by Atlantic Airlines, with 50 per cent of the cost paid for by Atlantic Airlines and the other 50 per cent bonded to candidates for five years: encouraging them to stay with Atlantic for at least this period.

All successful cadets are guaranteed a job with Atlantic Airlines on completion of the programme, which includes type and line training, as a Commercial Pilot on one of Atlantic Airlines' aircraft types.

Further cadet pilots have now been selected and will undergo their commercial flight training with Multiflight, and applications are invited from anyone interested in taking part in the scheme. Its current principle fleet features seven BAE Systems ATP and seven Lockheed L188/C Electra.

Its Flight Training Centre, which offers a wide range of courses for both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters, is one of the finest facilities of its kind in the country and has recently undergone a major refurbishment scheme. The contemporary new centre features a new reception area with seating; a flight planning and briefing area; purpose-built briefing rooms; a new Café Bar, and a purpose-built simulator suite. There is also now an onsite CAA-approved medical examiner, Dr Gerald Benjamin, and an onsite CAA-approved Radio Telephony Examiner Malcolm Dobson.

The transformation of the Flight Training Centre is part of a larger refurbishment scheme being carried out by Multiflight across its facilities, including Passenger Handling and the Café Bar. The Multiflight FBO, which caters for all sizes of aircraft, from light aircraft to VIP business jets and 757s, features a dedicated taxiway from the apron and two barrel-vaulted hangars covering 6,300 square metres that are able to house four Boeing 737-800 sized aircraft.
