Waves expands operations team ahead of launch

Waves Technologies Ltd has expanded its operations team with five key appointments, including its first employee in Jersey.

Trials of the new aircraft, which has just come off the production line, are scheduled to start in August. Chief operating officer Matt Bisson said that the new operations team would work alongside recently appointed pilot, Malcolm McFadyen, to finalise launch plans.

'We have put together a highly experienced team of pilots, as well as individuals with extensive commercial business management experience,' he said.

'We are on track to launch our tech-led, on demand air taxi later this summer and feel that the calibre of people we have on board rivals any similar-sized commercial airline. The team we have built has specific expertise, based on what we are doing to make Waves refreshingly different.'

Joining the operations team as training manager is Graeme Pollard who had a successful career as a television cameraman and director before deciding to become a pilot 25 years ago. Before joining Waves, he was head of training at one of the world's largest business jet operators and has an extensive managerial and training background.

'Waves is a very exciting business with lots of potential. With the right team on board, which we have, we will be able to provide a much-needed service for Channel Islanders,' he said.

'We wanted a team with very relevant industry experience, and between us we have clocked up many flying hours, as well as having considerable business experience at a number of different airlines across the world.'

Another new member of the operations team is safety manager, Tom Saunders, a highly experienced civilian and military pilot. He is an expert in safety management and has held senior roles in several large aviation organisations.

Project manager Jeff McGarry becomes the first Waves employee in Jersey where a team will be based to oversee arrivals into and departures from the island. He brings with him more than 20 years' experience in commercial business management, including 10 years in transport operations. Operations supervisor Geoff Bell was a pilot for 10 years and combined CRM instructor and flight safety officer. Geoff brings project management experience to the team and experience of working with EASA.

Returning to the island after studying aeronautical engineering at Loughborough University, Sam Hunt will take up the position of operations officer. Mr Hunt, a former Elizabeth College student, is an aviation enthusiast with aspirations to work as a commercial airline pilot in the future.

Waves' first aircraft is due to arrive later this month for trials ahead of it receiving its air operator certificate from 2-Reg.
