Asian Sky Group presents “The Current State of the Business Aviation Market in the Asia-Pacific Region” at IBCAS

Asian Sky Group (ASG) participated in the second Indonesia Business & Charter Aviation Summit (IBCAS) 2016, in Jakarta on September 7-8. ASG's commercial director Patrick Bouvry participated in the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) panel on day one of the summit on “The Future for Business & Charter Aviation in Indonesia” and spoke on day two on “The Current State of the Business Aviation Market in the Asia-Pacific Region”.

“ASG's involvement at IBCAS is part of our dedication to the Asia-Pacific business aviation industry,” says ASG commercial director, Patrick Bouvry. “We are happy to have shared our industry insight, at a time when business aviation is increasingly being recognized as supporting the growth of regional economies.”

Highlights of the presentation included:

- A detailed fleet analysis and breakdown of the business jet and civil helicopter fleets, with 1,134 business jets and 6015 civil helicopters throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

- Popular jet registrations throughout the region. The most flexible jurisdictions are thought to be the US, Bermuda, Cayman Island, Isle of Man, and Malta, while the least flexible are seen to be China, India, Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines.

- The growth of high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals throughout the region, a factor that should correspondingly lead to an increase in the potential for private aircraft ownership and charter. Notably, China & Hong Kong's significant increase in billionaires, which increased from 220 to 349 between 2012 in 2015.

- A breakdown of the business jet charter fleet in the region, with a total of 264 business jets available. India has the largest jet fleet for charter, with 60, followed by China (57) and Australia (55).

- A close look at business aviation in Indonesia, including largest operators, fleet growth, and the business jet charter fleet. The country has a total of 52 business jets and 199 civil helicopters, as well as 16 business jets available for charter.

- Recent information on the jet & helicopter pre-owned markets for sale, including inventory values, and market trends.

- A summary of regional challenges for the business aviation industry in the Asia-Pacific region. This includes issues with aviation infrastructure (lack of airports, FBOs, and parking); varying operational flexibility, such as restrictive cabotage rules, low international maintenance support, and prohibited international destinations; and higher costs linked to import taxes, credit risk, aircraft age restrictions, and lower aircraft resale attractiveness.

ASG's involvement in IBCAS comes just after the release of the inaugural Asia-Pacific Business Jet Charter Report. The first of its kind report offers an in-depth look into the Asia-Pacific business jet charter industry, the issues and challenges it faces, operational requirements, and the regulatory environment.
