Lydd Airport Invests in hangar facilities and Pet Travel Scheme

Rising demand for more business and general aviation facilities has led to the announcement of a new fabric-framed hangar at London Ashford Airport, just months after the Kent airport invested GBP700,000 on a new hangar catering for general aviation and business aircraft.

Installation work on the 45m x 35m hangar is expected to start in March. It will cater for larger jets using the airport such as luxury long-range executive jets which are too big for existing hangar space at Lydd such as the Gulfstream V, Embraer Legacy up to BAe 146 aircraft.

The current hanger facilities are already operating near capacity and this new investment underlines the airport's determination to ensure that it is able to meet the needs and expectations of providing good quality hangared parking at economical rates to the growing number of aviation businesses and customers who use Lydd,

DEFRA approved business aviation or air taxi operators will now be able to fly owners with their pets directly to Lydd Airport for passport clearance rather than to busy London airports. Lydd has specially trained pet handlers with all the latest equipment and facilities. Subject to successful clearance the pet will be free to disembark with its owner and, once the passengers have cleared Immigration, they can all continue their journey in the UK.

The clearance time at Lydd Airport is considerably shorter than that at Heathrow or Gatwick, and a great advantage of the service it offers is that pets (up to a maximum of four for just GBP120 +VAT) can travel in the cabin with their owners.

The news that London Ashford Airport Ltd is investing in new facilities comes at a time when it is undertaking preparation work for its much-anticipated runway extension programme.
