VIH Aerospace, a leading provider of helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul services; and a specialist in designing and developing supplemental type certified solutions for the Sikorsky S-92 helicopter has announcesd that research and development plans are underway for VIHA to introduce a three tank system to further increase operational range by introduction of additional useable fuel. VIHA is exhibiting at Heli-Expo 2016 booth # 1209.

VIH Aerospace general manager, Arne Arneson states that due to the success of this system and based on a number of industry inquiries to optimize fuel capacity/weight and extend operational range due to an increased gross weight operational allowance, VIH Aerospace is now investigating extending the capability of its current S-92 auxiliary fuel tank system to incorporate a third tank and new fuel management display that would be primarily used for the offshore oil and exploration industry.

Arneson indicates that preliminary work has begun to investigate the technical requirements of a three tank system that would meet helicopter operational requirements while addressing the strict regulatory conditions and requirements to ensure a three tank auxiliary fuel system meet regulatory requirements. He anticipates a timeline of four months to complete research and development for the system and an additional 12 months to prototype and engineer a final product suitable for supplemental type certification and subsequent market availability.
