AsBAA hosts vips at inaugural industry awards and charity gala dinner raising over HKD250k for Orbis Flying Eye Hospital

AsBAA, the Asian region's non-for-profit representative body for business aviation, held its inaugural industry awards at a glittering black tie gala dinner event at Hullett House, Hong Kong, Friday 6 November. The awards event, which was attended by several vips also served as a charity fundraiser for AsBAA's chosen charity, Orbis, raising over HKD250k to support Orbis' operations and activities in the region.

AsBAA chairman, Mr. Charlie Mularski said of the event: “As I mentioned in my opening speech, holding this event was somewhat of a gamble for AsBAA; but we could not be more delighted with the success of the evening, and the positive feedback that we have received. We are enormously proud to have hosted the industry awards: Mr. Norman Lo director general of HKCAD, Mr. Kurt Edwards director general of IBAC, Dr. Angus Cheung president of HKAIA- HK Aviation Industry Association, Ms. Evelyn Wu, NBAA representative, and from Orbis, Ms. Mary Lau. The evening was a great success all round, a sell-out event in which we can celebrate the stars of the industry, and also give back to the community in which we all operate.”

The gala dinner was hosted in the beautiful and historic Hullet House, where the evening featured several presentations, the awards ceremony, a “live pledge” for Orbis, and entertainment for the 240 guests. The AsBAA awards were presented over 11 categories of business aviation, and also included a Best Woman of Aviation Award, and the Mike Davis (contribution to aviation) award. AsBAA vice-chairman, Mr. David Best said: “The voting was incredibly close, and there were even some surprises on the evening in terms of the final awards due to a flurry of last minute votes from AsBAA members. We worked very hard to ensure the voting process was fair and transparent, and for some categories, it was very close indeed! One thing I think we'll see next year is an even fiercer battle to secure these coveted trophies, which are awarded entirely on merit. On behalf of AsBAA, I would like to say a big 'congratulations' to all the winners from 2015!'

AsBAA vice-chairman Mr Kevin Wu shared, “An enjoyable, and memorable evening was had by all, which would not have been possible without the fantastic support of the industry. I would like to recognise our sponsors: Bombardier Aerospace, Dassault Falcon, Lufthansa Technik, CIT, AON, and Hong Kong BellaWings for their support, and of course all the guests, and AsBAA members for their involvement. It was good to see recognition from across the whole region this evening. AsBAA represents a diverse and dynamic community in Asia, so it's important that each region is recognised. We hope to announce the location of the 2016 awards very soon, and we look forward to making this event a big hit on the annual business aviation calendar.”

Orbis representative, Ms. Mary Lau said: “On behalf of Orbis, I would like to thank AsBAA and the business aviation community in Asia for its support. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of the guests at the AsBAA Charity Gala Dinner. The HKD250k raised will make a significant difference in the lives of those with avoidable blindness in Asia.”
