Press Release
Issued by Universal Avionics, an Elbit Systems company.
October 17, 2008
Universal Avionics is pleased to announce the addition of the Hawker 700A to its list of aircraft with successful EFI-890R Flat Panel Glass Display installations. The upgrade modification of the Hawker 700A was completed by Mid-Canada Mod Center at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) in Canada. This is the first retrofit application of Universal's large-format PFD/ND EFI-890R displays in a BAe/Hawker business jet.
The complete cockpit modification included three EFI-890R Flat Panel Glass Displays, an upgrade to the dual Universal Flight Management Systems (FMS) for 3-D coupled approaches, Application Server Unit (ASU) for electronic charts, checklist and EDOCs, dual Radio Control Units (RCU) and Universal's Terrain and Awareness System (TAWS) Class A.
This modification significantly increases the safety of the aircraft while reducing maintenance costs associated with electromechanical indicators and older radio controls. The EFI-890R replaces several electromechanical indicators and the installation of the RCU consolidates various dedicated radio controls into a single unit. Present position overlay provided by the ASU and displayed on the EFI-890R aids in the prevention of runway incursions for a higher level of safety.
"Universal is committed to Hawker operators and keeping this aircraft type viable," said Dan Reida, Vice President of Marketing, "We look forward to expanding the platforms available for our glass displays so other Hawker operators can take advantage of state-of-the-art glass cockpits in their current aircraft, as well as improved safety awareness provided by systems such as TAWS and ASU."
