AsBAA connects with SEA and pledges “open door” support and commitment to one voice for business aviation in Asia

AsBAA, the Asian region's non-for-profit representative body for business and general aviation has celebrated a successful start to the summer, making good on its earlier promises to be “more transparent, more active, with one voice for the region.” The association has been working hard to increase visibility, transparency, support and influence in the region through a series of membership engagement, and recruitment activities and events. In an effort to open dialogue with its diverse regional membership; AsBAA has hosted three successful committee meetings in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Singapore in the past month since #ABACE15 which was held in April in Shanghai; all of which were better attended than ever before, indicating growing support for the industry's representative body.

This week also saw the AsBAA board, including chairman, Charlie Mularski, vice-chairman, David Best, and several members of the board of governors, including Mike Walsh, Denzil White, Emil Pope and Ty Dubay attend the Corporate Jet and Helicopter Investor Conference at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore. The industry leading event included business aviation presentations, panel discussions, networking events, and interactive audience voting designed to gauge industry perceptions and opinions. The Singapore based AsBAA activities also included the south east Asia (SEA) AsBAA members committee meeting, held at Jet Aviation boardroom in their new hangar facility at Seletar Airport, 8 June, 2015 which was attended by 32 of AsBAA's members from across the diverse and promising markets of south east Asia including: China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, and other regional markets.

At the AsBAA SEA committee meeting AsBAA leader Charlie Mularski commented: “We are enormously encouraged to see such support in the room; together we are opening dialogue and actively finding solutions to the problems we collectively face. We may not always have the right answers, but the pledge and solid commitment from AsBAA is here. Business aviation is a tool to drive economic development, create jobs, and contribute to communities. Sometimes we have to fight for the right to exist and prosper, but we can do this far more effectively with one voice through AsBAA.”

Mike Walsh, board of governor, also made an impact as the opening speaker at day one of the Corporate Jet Investor and Helicopter Investor Conference. Delivering a high-energy and compelling visual presentation of AsBAA's value-add for members/the industry, its achievements, objectives, and upcoming events, Walsh engaged the audience and secured further support for the growing association. “Our goal right now is to further grow our membership base so that we can achieve more; we are only as powerful as the sum of our collective parts, and we need you. Our efforts to address the challenges of the industry are making an impact, so we thank you for your continued support.” Walsh also announced the first ever AsBAA industry awards, which will take place at the AsBAA Charity Gala Dinner on Friday 6th November, Hullett House, 1881 Heritage, Hong Kong; “We're hoping to celebrate the real stars of the industry, and create the inaugural industry awards which will be voted on merit and contribution to the growing industry across Asia. We are also hoping to raise significant funds for the new AsBAA charity, Orbis, The Flying Eye Hospital. AsBAA is seeking much needed sponsorship contributions from the industry in order for this to be a truly successful event; watch this space for further news.”

Greg Martin, ceo of Executive Wings and new AsBAA member commented: “There is such opportunity in Asia, but there is no denying the industry landscape is one of many and varied challenges. These largely relate to lack of knowledge, education, and understanding from the authorities. I believe as an AsBAA member, this association is best placed to help resolve some of these issues, so that as an industry, we can realise the collective potential success the region holds.”

The Corporate Jet and Helicopter Investor Conference Asia makes up AsBAA's 24th industry engagement event in the last year.
