Duncan Aviation offers Safran Power Systems EASA-approved solution for APC starter generator

Duncan Aviation is offering a Safran Power Systems starter generator replacement solution to reliability issues with the APC starter generator, part number 400SG138Q-1, -1-XL, -Q-2, -Q-2-1, -Q-X-L, currently found on some P&W305 engines.

The original starter generator isn't performing as expected, creating some reliability uncertainty caused by the high levels of heat generated during initial start-up of the PW305 engine on certain model aircraft, explains Duncan Aviation's quality control representative Bob Tooker.

“If the amperage is not allowed to drop before the second engine is started, the demand on the starter generator remains high and the continued higher heat may cause early failure of the APC starter generator, requiring its early removal and overhaul,” says Bob. “For our customers, we're recommending they replace it with a more reliable unit before it fails without notice.”

Duncan Aviation suggests the APC unit with the Safran Power UK & Safran Power USA starter generator, part number 23091-009, because it's specifically designed for the PW305 engine on certain model aircraft and requires no aircraft modification.

“We've installed the Safran starter generator on five of our aircraft and they've all performed flawlessly. I would definitely recommend this product to a peer. The design made for a simple install so we could start using them right away,” says Duncan Aviation customer Bill Rohde from Jet Select, LLC.

The starter generator has received full Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) and Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) certification and is also European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved.
