Lelystad Airport is on the doorstep of becoming a major airport for business aviation and maintenance repair and overhaul in the greater Amsterdam region. On April 1st a formal request for extending the runway was delivered tot the Dutch Minister of Transport. Lelystad Airport’s owner Schiphol Group will invest 90 million Euros in a total reshape of the airport. The development of Lelystad Airport is part of the long term agreement for the growth of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. From early 2018 it will be able to take over non-Mainport related flights to leisure destinations in Europe. Therefore the runway will be extended to a length of 2400 mtrs. A new terminal will be built in phases. Lelystad Airport will also focus on attracting more business flights. The airport is very well connected to the central part of Holland. In the past few years some major MRO companies have built state of the art facilities at Lelystad Airport. QAPS/STTS built a paintshop for business and regional aircraft. Specto opened her brand new composite repair shop in December last year. A 737 sized hangar is available for general maintenance. The airport is aiming at creating a one-stop-shop concept for MRO with high quality and flexibility at affordable prices. Companies interested to take part in this new concept, are invited to contact the airport.
