Press Release
Issued by London Biggin Hill Airport Ltd.
December 5, 2013
Robert Walters has been appointed to the board of directors at Biggin Hill Airport with immediate effect. His promotion comes after seven years as business development manager for the airport company.
In his new role as director, Robert will continue to lead the sales and marketing thrust and will also manage the new customer service role that has been formed to integrate the executive handling unit with related passenger and terminal services.
Robert's business career started in 1998 with Wellmarine, a Lloyds of London broker where he joined the marine and aviation reinsurance section.
After three years in the City, he was invited to establish and manage the first civilian handling unit for business aircraft at RAF Northolt. During the five years of the contract, he advanced the business from a zero base up to 7,000 movements per annum by corporate aircraft. At cessation of the contract in 2006, he was moved to London's Biggin Hill Airport to take up a new role as business development manager.
In the airport's senior marketing role, Robert has helped to establish Biggin Hill as one of the principal gateway airports for London and the City serving the international business aircraft industry. During his seven year tenure, he has attracted a customer base with a global reach. He has become well known internationally through representing Biggin Hill at NBAA, EBACE and other industry events. He takes an active role within the Baltic Air Charter Association, London First and the airport's LoCATE initiative.
Working with organiser MIU Events, Robert negotiated for the Business Aircraft Europe exhibition to move to Biggin Hill in 2011 where it has since achieved increasing support from industry executives year on year. He was responsible for planning and managing the higher levels of customer service required for the London Games of 2012 and handles all contractual arrangements for the new 55,000 sq ft terminal hangar and it's associated office suites.
Commenting on the new board appointment, airport chairman Andrew Walters said – “Robert has made a great contribution to the development of our business and his knowledge and enthusiasm for this specialist sector of civil aviation is boundless. I am delighted that he will join us on the board as we plan the next stage of Biggin Hill's development into a world class bbusiness aviation airport for London. He has really earned his spurs and like any father, I am very proud and pleased to have him in the family business.”
Robert Walters, who reaches his 37th birthday later this month, lives in London with his wife Lucy and their two young children.
