Flight departments can further streamline their flight operations with Rockwell Collins' latest enhancements to the Ascend Flight Manager app for the iPad.

The app now enables performance-based flight planning and dynamic flight tracking for Regional Trip Support subscribers, dramatically enhancing the mobile experience and reducing workload for flight crews. The free Rockwell Collins Ascend Flight Manager app is available in the Apple App Store.

The Ascend Flight Manager app is the only flight operations application to integrate FOS® scheduling software, international trip documents, weather and airport directory information onto an iPad, enabling paperless operations, reducing workload and enhancing efficiency.

Details of the Rockwell Collins' Flight Manager app enhancements include:

Performance-based flight planning, filing and airplane uplink

• Users can quickly create, file and uplink (via data link) a flight plan to the aircraft Flight Management System (FMS) that automatically incorporates variables such as forecasted winds, temperatures and FAA- or CFMU-approved routes.

• Pilots can view available routes on the integrated Google Maps™, and select their preferred route.

• Once the flight plan is computed, pilots can create flight briefs, including the full or summary flight plan, METARs, TAFs, NOTAMs, aviation weather and passenger weather.

• The app also displays flight plans that were created using the Flight Manager online browser, so flight crews can easily re-compute if need be from their mobile device.

Dynamic flight tracking and situational awareness

• Flight crews that subscribe to Rockwell Collins data link can view their aircraft's position and flight path anywhere in the world on the app's embedded Google Maps platform.

• The flight tracking tool allows pilots to overlay satellite and U.S. radar data on the map to increase situational awareness and aide them during flight or during trip planning.

• Data link messages can be sent using the app, such as from dispatchers and operations personnel, and received on the aircraft's FMS.
