Cobham announces S-TEC 5000 flight control system

Cobham is pleased to announce the S-TEC 5000, the latest advancement in flight control for higher performance jet and turboprop aircraft. The S-TEC 5000 is a 3 axis configurable autopilot which will allow for fully digital or combination digital and analog interface. It will be certified to DO-178 Level A software with DO-160 testing to meet the requirements for Part 25 aircraft.

The S-TEC 5000 will include typical functionality including Heading and Nav hold, Altitude Pre-select, course intercept, Indicated Airspeed hold, Vertical Speed hold, GPSS, and Control Wheel Steering. In addition, the autopilot will offer 3-axis trim capability, straight and level recovery, envelope protection and altitude step down sequencing during an approach. The two later features require a compatible EFIS such as the Cobham IDU-450 or IDU-680 displays. Additional EFIS integration allows for display of Autopilot Annunciations, Heading and Altitude bug control and Flight Director depiction.

“As the world leader in retrofit autopilots for Part 23 aircraft, we recognize the need to expand our autopilot offerings for the high performance jet and turboprop market." said Roger Smith, Cobham Integrated Systems' general manager. "Our philosophy is to offer excellent value for a sophisticated autopilot with the flexibility and functionality to meet the needs and aspirations of many platforms and cockpit configurations."

Pricing is not yet announced and availability is expected late 2015 or early 2016.
