London (Biggin Hill) Airport

Press Release

September 13, 2013

Will Curtis appointed md at Biggin Hill Airport

Will Curtis has been appointed as managing director at Biggin Hill Airport. He will succeed Jenny Munro, who is retiring, after a handover period next month.

Announcing the appointment today, chairman Andrew Walters said that the arrival of Mr Curtis represents another important step towards Biggin Hill becoming a truly world class business and general aviation airport serving London as a world city.

Curtis, who is 49, is well known at the airport having previously been managing director of Goldair between 1998 and 2007 and more recently as ceo of the Swiss-owned company Perfect Aviation. The business of both companies was aircraft management and business aircraft charter.

After qualifying as a professional pilot in 1992 at the Oxford Air Training School, Will's first job was as a flying instructor at a club in Suffolk. He went on to work for a specialist air survey company flying Piper Navajo Chieftain aircraft on aerial mapping missions in Europe and the Mediterranean.

In 1995, Curtis and a business partner established their own company Hawkair at Cambridge Airport which was his initial foray into the world of aircraft management and related charter work in which he was md. The range of aircraft of Hawkair's fleet included Cessna 421, Piper Aztec and Navajo, also the Cessna Citation 550. In 1998, the company was sold to David and Ralph Gold who appointed Curtis as managing director with an operating base at Biggin Hill.

In 2007, Curtis moved to Bahrain on a 2-year contract to establish the initial Rizon Jet facility at Qatar as a major business jet charter operator. This led to the eventual presence of Rizon Jet at Biggin Hill with a brand new aircraft engineering and corporate jet handling facility. At the conclusion of his contract, he transferred to Geneva as ceo of the Swiss-owned Perfect Aviation who moved their corporate HQ to the UK in 2012 to become based at Biggin Hill.

“Will's considerable experience as chief executive of business jet operators both here and abroad will add to the skills of our existing management and ensure that we develop our services to meet the high standards and requirements of this exciting sector” added Mr Walters.

Commenting on his appointment, Will Curtis said “I am delighted by this opportunity to work together with the world class team at London's Biggin Hill Airport in order to continue to encourage sustainable growth within the business aviation sector. I am confident that in the years to come, the airport will make an even greater contribution to the local economy and will provide increased employment prospects for local school and college leavers as we seek to attract further key strategic business investment to this area of London”

Will Curtis lives with his wife Siobhan in Biggin Hill where they are residents of long-standing in the village.
