Press Release
Issued by Shanghai FBO.
April 18, 2013
According to Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre (SHPBASC), Shanghai's destinations for corporate aviation, Hongqiao and Pudong International Airport are getting busy. Traffic is up nearly 12% for both airports in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the same time last year, and together they completed 940 movements in this year's first quarter, an increase on 2012's 840 movements for the same period.
“The average increases for the last several years have hovered around the 12% mark since 2010,” according to SHPBASC general manager, Carey Matthews. “What is good about that number is it is sort of a 'Goldilocks' number: it is just about right. It isn't such a small number that it is taking too long for the industry to get established, and it isn't such a large number that it is overwhelming the local infrastructure's ability to support it. We hope we will finish 2013 up 12% as well, which will get us well north of 4200 movements for both airports.”
According to Mr Mathews, traffic at Hongqiao has been increasing as more customers that formerly operated into Pudong choose to take their passengers through the FBO at Hongqiao.
“The location of Hongqiao Airport is significantly closer to downtown. Coupled with our purpose-built FBO and the MRO, it is natural for operators to try and route through Hongqiao, translating to an 87% increase in traffic into Hongqiao in the first quarter of 2013 compared with the same period two years ago, and 20% compared with the first quarter in 2012 – which puts into perspective the scale of that migration.”
SHPBASC provides FBO and MRO services at Hongqiao International Airport and provides flight and ground handling services at Pudong International Airport, Shanghai's second airport.
SHPBASC is a joint venture between Shanghai Airport Authority and Hawker Pacific. Shanghai Airport Authority is the owner and operator of Hongqiao International Airport and Pudong International Airport. Hawker Pacific is a market leader in integrated civil and military aerospace sales and product support in South East Asia, Australia, the Pacific and the Middle East and is one of the largest independent companies of its type in the region with nearly 600 employees. The company's customers include airlines, commuter, corporate, general aviation, rotary wing and special mission operators, governments and the military.
SHPBASC and its 4,000 square meter maintenance facility are located at Shanghai's Hongqiao International Airport, with the maintenance facility located adjacent to Shanghai's first FBO. The FBO opened in April 2010 and has been providing service to China's business aviation community since.
ABACE was last hosted at Shanghai Hawker Pacific Aviation Service Centre between March 27th and March 29th 2012 and this year ABACE 2013 will be at the facility between April 16th and April 18th.
