May 19, 2008
Preparatory work for the operational launch of AMAC Aerospace Switzerland AG is going according to plan. The first aircraft will already be in the new hangar at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg for maintenance, refurbishment and completion work in September this year. AMAC will be presenting itself to its target audience for the first time at the flagship aviation trade fair EBACE, which runs from 20 to 22 May 2008 in Geneva.
AMAC was founded in autumn 2007 by a group of aviation specialists. Heinz Köhli, CEO of AMAC Aerospace Switzerland AG and his team commence business operations during the course of this year. In a few months time the new company will start providing high quality maintenance, refurbishment and completion services for corporate and private aircraft from its base in Basel.
Attractive market environment
The business aviation market has seen annual growth of 5.8% over the last 30 years. Forecasts indicate that this growth is set to accelerate. The positive outlook means there is room for a new company offering high quality services to enter this attractive market alongside the established players.
Stage-by-stage development
AMAC has secured a 35-year concession from EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg for 45,000 m2 of land. Over the coming months the company will be investing around CHF 50 million in two aircraft hangars, as well workshops and offices that can accommodate around 300 employees.
In the first phase of construction, AMAC is building a 4,200 m2 double hangar. Operational work will begin in the aircraft halls, workshops and offices in September 2008. During the first phase, maintenance will be offered on Gulfstream, Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
The second phase of construction will see the erection of a wide-body hangar with a floor space of around 8,200 m2. This will be big enough for wide-bodied aircraft such as a Boeing B747-400 or two Airbus A 320. From 2009 services will also be offered for aircraft made by Dassault, Bombardier and other manufacturers.
Initial work on schedule
Construction work on the site at EuroAirport is going according to plan.
The foundation stone of the first aircraft hall was laid on 6 May 2008.
The first aircraft – an Airbus 320 belonging to a client from the Middle East – is already at the airport ready for refurbishment and completion work to begin. In addition, within the last few days the company signed its first aircraft management contract for a Gulfstream IV.
Work has already started on this.
