Press Release
Issued by Safe Flight Instrument.
May 16, 2008
Safe Flight Instrument Corporation's Powerline Detection System has been installed and successfully flight tested on the MD900. The installation on the all composite aircraft was performed by IFR Avionics of Van Nuys California and approved by the Federal Aviation Administration, FAA on March 31st, 2008.
Safe Flight's Powerline Detection System is FAA STC'd on the Bell Jet Ranger, EASA certified on the BK117 and AS 355 and has been installed on several other airframes with the issuance of an FAA Field Service Approval. Powerline Detection Systems are being operated around the world by EMS, Fire, Law Enforcement, Forestry, Military, Charter, Head of State and VIP operations.
Weighing less than one pound, Safe Flight's Powerline Detection System is designed to sense the electromagnetic field from any direction and warn pilots once a helicopter is in the vicinity of a live wire. When an electromagnetic field is sensed, the Powerline Detection System emits an unmistakable auditory alert. Pilots literally "hear" their relationship to a power-line hazard, even without seeing it. The aural warning increases in frequency (like a Geiger counter) as the helicopter gets closer to a live power line. A red warning light also illuminates on the cockpit indicator.
