Wingspan Systems Inc. has announced the introduction of its revolutionary new RampTrack Ground Accident Avoidance System (GRAAS), which helps prevent ramp and hangar accidents by tracking aircraft on the ground and issuing a warning if they risk impacting another aircraft, vehicle or person. Incorporating redundant sensors, intelligent software, and visual and aural alarms, the RampTrack GRAAS reduces the likelihood aircraft damage during taxi and repositioning, 'hangar rash' due to contact with toolboxes, ground tugs and walls, and even injury to personnel. The RampTrack system also provides physical asset management, customer relationship management and enhanced security through its database functionality and unique multi-sensor interface, and saves on operations costs by reducing the number of people required to reposition aircraft. Engineering field testing is scheduled to begin in November at Banyan Air Service, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, which is also the launch customer.
An affordable, easy-to-install solution that uses intelligent video input to identify aircraft and other elements on the ground, the RampTrack system also incorporates an airplane database and a proprietary mobile sensor, the RampTrack RoverTM, which includes an array of security and customer service functions. RampTrack systems are available for business aviation, commercial and military applications.
"Designed to help FBO and hangar managers — as well as aircraft owners and operators — rest more easily at night, the RampTrack GRAAS is an important advance in ground safety," said Jason Lee, Wingspan's chief technology officer. "In addition, its powerful IT applicability and such customer service features as integrated billing help the system literally pay for itself by saving on labor costs and enabling FBO managers to respond more quickly to their customers' needs," he added.
In addition to being a lifesaving safety solution, service enhancement and powerful GA security tool, the RampTrack system is also expected to help reduce insurance costs over time. Wingspan Systems, located at NBAA in Banyan Air Services' Booth 2766, is taking orders for custom RampTrack system installations in early 2013.
