Horizon Swiss Flight Academy launches new training courses for business aviation operators

Horizon Swiss Flight Academy (Booth 2154) is launching new operator-specific initial and recurrent training at its centres in Switzerland at this year's EBACE. All courses are provided in accordance with EU-OPS requirements and JAR-FCL.

Nicolas Bachmann, accountable manager explains, "We saw a real need emerging from our customers. They want to cover regulatory requirements effectively, as well as reduce their administration costs by passing the organisation and supervision of their crew ratings to us."

Operators save money by passing their flight and cabin crew training to Horizon. The Academy then manages all the required paperwork. It also has its own on site instructors, saving on extra operator staff costs.

In operation since 1979, Horizon provides a modern training environment with state of the art equipment. The school offers both classroom and online courses to meet many different training needs, as well as flying training for "forgotten" basic skills in a Diamond Aircraft Simulator 42.

Bachmann adds, "We also work with operators who wish to train for more than just meeting the standard compliances. For example they want simulator training to refresh their basic knowledge, or would like to create an extensive selection process for when they hire flight crew."

The new courses include:

• Cockpit resource management (CRM): initial, recurrent and upgrades

• Emergency and safety training (ESET) and first aid: initial safety training, recurrent ESET training (use of fire extinguishers, first aid oxygen, fire axe, life jackets, etc.)

• Crew selection: assessment of flying skills, HUPEX (human potential explorer), psychological assessments, written test basic knowledge (ATPL)

• Simulator training for flight crews: upset recovery, conventional navigation, pitch/power flying, navigational exercises

• Dispatchers' course: initial and recurrent training for fixed base operators (FBO's) or airline operators. This includes interpretation of documents, relevant to flight operation such as NOTAMs, weather, planning possibilities, mass and balance, performance, regulations

• Other courses include: cabin service, RVSM, winter operations, security and handling dangerous goods

Horizon has tested the market by running two initial courses, and received an extremely positive response. Swiss charter company G5 Executive started ESET and CRM training earlier this year. Helvetic Airways is another client, while Jet Aviation and Farnair are partners in the pilot selection offerings.
