TSA selects Jacksonville International Airport for Airport Employee Screening Pilot Program

The Transportation Security Administration announced Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) and six other U.S. airports will take part in airport employee screening pilot programs.

TSA will test various screening techniques for 90 days at each of the airports. At JAX, all airport employees, including Jacksonville Aviation Authority and airport vendor staffs, will be screened as they pass from public areas to the airport's secure area, known as Security Identification Display Area or SIDA.

"As an airport that has been at the forefront of security measures, we sought this pilot program and are pleased the TSA selected JAX," said John Clark, JAA CEO and Executive Director. "This latest security program is another opportunity to ensure that safety and security is a top priority at our airport system."

The pilot program is a requirement of the Omnibus Appropriations Act passed by Congress in January 2008.

"We are certainly happy to have been selected for participation in such an important security evaluation," said Ed Goodwin, TSA's Federal Security Director for Northeast Florida. "TSA remains committed to finding ways to enhance the security on the operational side of the airport."
