Oxford Aviation Academy (OAA) and Swinburne University of Technology are pleased to announce the launch of a new pilot training program commencing in January 2012 for all students embarking on the Bachelor of Aviation and Bachelor of Aviation/Bachelor of Commerce at Swinburne.

DrawinguponOAA'sextensivenationalandinternationalpilottrainingexpertise,theAirlinePreparation Program First Officer (APPFO) has been designed to deliver world-class training to fully prepare professional pilots to pursue a career path in general aviation or to undertake jet endorsement training and move into a First Officer position within an airline upon graduation.

Pablo Muller, Oxford Aviation Academy's Head – Sales and Innovation, said: "redesigning the program is an important and innovative step which will address the growing needs of OAA and Swinburne's combined customers as well as the future demands of the industry to receive training which further reinforces flight safety and modern aviation technology as core principles."

Swinburne's Aviation Discipline Leader, Stephen Fankhauser said the introduction of the APPFO program within the Swinburne aviation qualification combines a world class aviation degree with the innovative quality training provided by Oxford Aviation Academy, a world leader in flight training.

"The APPFO is the first university flying training program in Australia to offer a high performance jet simulator based multi crew cooperation and jet orientation course as standard that will meet proposed new CASA safety regulations," Fankhauser said.

"We will also be introducing a mandatory skills assessment test as part of the selection process – another first for any university flying training program. The combination of the rigorous selection process and the quality of the APPFO training will well position our graduates within the aviation industry ."

Flying training will be conducted at OAA's training centre at Moorabbin Airport in new model, glass cockpit Cessna C172 aircraft and PA44 Piper Seminole multi engine aircraft coupled with the latest generation simulators.

The new program costs approximately $88,720 which is within the expected limit for FEE-HELP loan assistance in 2012. FEE-HELP loan assistance ensures that training is more affordable and equitable for aspiring pilots.
