Leading aircraft charter specialist, Air Charter Service, has reported a 25% increase in flights on private jets to the holiday hotspot of Olbia on Sardinia.
Joel Fenn, Executive Sales Director at the company's UK headquarters, commented: "Olbia is always a very popular summer destination with our clients, but this month [August] bookings there are up by a significant amount. The coastal town, in the north of the Italian island, is a real favourite with the wealthy as it has beautiful sun-kissed beaches and night-time entertainment, but isn't too overcrowded with tourists. And, obviously, the best way to travel there is in style, comfort and luxury.
"I guess the poor weather and problems in the UK in recent weeks has possibly encouraged people to think about getting away a bit more than usual, but we are also seeing many bookings from our other European offices, including Paris, Frankfurt and Moscow. Greece has also been an extremely popular destination this summer – in particular Santorini and Mykonos.
"The range of aircraft that our clients have been chartering varies a great deal, but common ones seem to be Citation XLSs and Hawker 800s."
Air Charter Service arranged its 3,000th charter of the year [y/c 01/02/2011] earlier this month and is on track to surpass last year's total of 5,200 charters.
