Gulfstream appoints Derek Zimmerman vice preisdent of product support materials

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. has named Derek Zimmerman to the newly created position of vice president, Product Support Materials. In this post, Zimmerman oversees the material supply chain, parts sales and worldwide parts distribution for Gulfstream's Product Support organization. He reports to Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream Product Support.

Zimmerman came to Gulfstream from Vero Beach, Fla., where he had been vice president, Supply Chain and Aftermarket Development, for Piper Aircraft since 2009. In that position, he was responsible for directing and overseeing several departments for the general aviation manufacturer, including information technology, logistics, planning, procurement, product support, supplier management and warehousing.

Zimmerman joined Piper in 2006 as director, Supply Chain. His responsibilities were expanded to include Production Control in 2007, and in 2009, he was named senior director, Supply Chain and Aftermarket Development. While at Piper, Zimmerman led efforts to enter new markets, expand product and service offerings, improve supply chain integration, and increase operational efficiency and performance.

Prior to his tenure at Piper, Zimmerman was manager, Supply Chain Operations, for Harley-Davidson Motor Company's main vehicle assembly facility in York, Pa. While at Harley-Davidson, Zimmerman's responsibilities included continuous improvement, inventory control, new product development, process/system development, and supply base management.

Zimmerman earned a bachelor's degree in international operations from the University of Minnesota and holds a master's degree in business administration from Auburn University.
