First retrofit of Lufthansa Technik nice® system into Global Express aircraft

The first ever retrofit of a Lufthansa Technik nice® cabin management and in-flight entertainment (CMS/IFE) system on a Bombardier Global Express aircraft has been successfully completed in cooperation with H4 Aerospace (UK) Ltd, an EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) Design Organization Approval (DOA). The installation of this innovative system was performed during the 8C-check – the biggest scheduled maintenance event, which is performed on a Global Express aircraft every 10 years. The aircraft owner has opted for a complete refurbishment of the interior. Together with the new interior, the Lufthansa Technik nice® system, which has been tailored to the customer’s requirements, was installed to update the cabin to the latest CMS/IFE technologies. Russell Wenman, CEO of H4 Aerospace (UK) Ltd, underlines: "This project showed how a vision can be turned into reality, and is further proof of our spearheading in technology. With the Supplemental Type Certificate in place, we will be able to add this kind of retrofit to any future Global airframe overhaul downtime." Andrew Muirhead, Director of the Innovation Business Unit of Lufthansa Technik, added: "The system features the latest state-of-the-art technologies, including intuitive passenger control panels, the niceview® high-resolution moving map system, iPod integration and WiFi Network. We even have an option of controlling the system via an iPhone App – a unique feature that places control at the user’s fingertips."
