Biggin Hill Airport announces air fair and new aerospace academy

In October, Biggin Hill Airport announced that the current Biggin Hill Airshow would not continue in its current form, adopting a new much smaller and static display format of an Open House Air Day at Biggin Hill Airport - set for the first event on Saturday 10th September 2011, together with the Youth Careers day on the Friday 9th September, where local schools will be invited.

The world-renowned heritage of RAF Biggin Hill will be fully reflected and it is hoped to have the old dispersal hut renovated and relocated by then. The outline programme, still in the early planning stages, will incorporate the best of modern aviation by putting the daily life of the airport on show balanced with music and heritage. The occasion will be a much more 'local' event for local residents and admission will be limited by invitation. The event is to allow residents to have a better understanding of the history of the airport and what it contributes today.

Aviation Academy

Plans are moving forward to establish a new aerospace academy at Biggin Hill to support the growing businesses around the airport. When operational, the new Academy will provide training courses for a range of skills required by the modern aerospace industry.

Discussions have taken place between representatives of airport management and senior staff at Bromley College about future training requirements and the scope of training courses for new jobs in aviation that companies based at Biggin Hill are expected to create as the economy picks up.

The aerospace academy is likely to be sited in the airport's West Camp area. Site owner Bernie Ecclestone of F1 Management has provisionally agreed to make a suitable building available for the academy.
