Rockwell Collins, Inc. (NYSE: COL) today announced its acquisition of Computing Technologies for Aviation, Inc. (CTA), a leading provider of flight operations management solutions for corporate flight departments and other aviation customers. The acquisition adds to the broad capabilities of Rockwell Collins' new Ascend™ flight information solutions offering for business aircraft operators.
"As aircraft systems become more information-enabled, we are increasingly focused on providing value to our customers by streamlining the flow of information between the aircraft and supporting ground systems," said Rockwell Collins Chairman, President and CEO Clay Jones. "This acquisition advances our strategy to become the single source for end-to-end flight information management."
Ascend flight information solutions, unveiled in October at the National Business Aviation Association convention, offers a full-range of applications and services that streamline flight department operations. Ascend can be tailored to the individual needs of business aircraft operators and includes flight planning and filing; weather updates; fuel services and concierge services; automatic data transfer of navigation, terrain, graphical weather and other flight deck databases; maintenance diagnostics; and cabin system subscription management, such as TV and other information and entertainment sources. With the addition of CTA's scheduling and dispatch capabilities, Rockwell Collins is now able to address the full spectrum of flight support needs from trip initiation through closeout.
"This is a great opportunity for our customers," said CTA President Fred Powell Sr. "Combined with Rockwell Collins, we'll be able to provide more comprehensive flight services to operators of business aircraft."
