The British Business & General Aviation Association (BBGA Ltd) is very pleased to announce that Marc Bailey MBA BSc (Hons) MRAeS has joined the organisation in the capacity of Chief Operating Officer, effective 1st December 2010.
In this role, Marc will lead the many important lobbying and representational campaigns that the association is engaged in on behalf of its members, who span every facet of the professional Business & General Aviation Industry in the UK; from Flying Schools and Airfields to Business Jet operators and Handling Agents. He joins Guy Lachlan, who will remain as CEO of the association, and Office ManagerAnne Seckington who has been with the BBGA for 25 years.
Marc joins the BBGA from Cobham Aviation Services (formerly FR Aviation) where he has held a succession of increasingly responsible positions since joining them in 1998, culminating with that of Head of Quality, Continuing Airworthiness and Training which he as held since 2002. He has chaired the BBGA's Engineering Committee since 2006, and was elected to the association's Governing Council in 2007. He was also a founder member of the United Kingdom Maintenance Error Management System (UKMEMS), a body for which he is currently Deputy Chair, and also chairs the European Independent Maintenance Group (EIMG), as well as playing an active role in the United Kingdom Operators Group (UKOTG) which represents the views of major airline operators in the UK in discussions with the CAA and EASA.
"I am greatly looking forward to this next challenge in my career," says Bailey. "We are going through a phase of unprecedented legislative change in every area of our members' businesses, and stronger Trade representation is essential if the UK and Europe are to remain an aviation centre in the decades ahead." A strong consensus-builder, Marc has long had a particular interest in attracting the next generation of aviation professionals into the industry, which he and BBGA see as being central to the industry's future well-being.
BBGA Chairman David Antrobus adds, "Marc's appointment signifies the intention of the BBGA to further amplify the voice of our members at home and in Europe." He adds, "most of our members are Small or Medium sized Enterprises, and between them they generate billions for the British economy every year. Getting their voice heard and understood by government is really important – especially in the current economic climate."
Marc's aviation career spans 36 years, initially starting as a technician apprentice with BOAC before graduating to line engineer and subsequently several management roles in British Airways including Chief Project Officer for the Boeing 777 and Chief Fleet Engineer. As well as being a licensed Avionics engineer, he also holds a degree in Air Transport Engineering from The City University and an MBA from
Lancaster University.
