Biggin Hill voted 'Best Business Aviation Airport' of the year

Biggin Hill Airport has won the industry's premier accolade in its field, the coveted 'Best Business Aviation Airport', in a nationwide annual awards scheme.

The award was received on behalf of the airport by Peter Lonergan, Airport Director, at a Gala Dinner last week following the annual conference of the Airport Operators Association (AOA) at the Hilton Metropole in London, attended by 200 delegates from across the UK industry.

Speaking at the award ceremony, AOA Chairman Ed Anderson said that the number and quality of entries this year was unprecedented.

"Deciding on the winners was a difficult process with so many outstanding entries in all categories. The results reflect the quality of people and companies working in the airports industry, the award winners showing particular excellence and dedication in their field" said Mr Anderson.

For the Business Aviation Airport award, judging was carried out independently by the British Business & General Aviation Association (BBGA) whose members are regular users and customers of airports such as Biggin Hill. Guy Lachlan, CEO of the association explained the background of the winning 2010 award.

"The judges were impressed with the achievements at Biggin Hill in attracting a number of new top-flight businesses to establish facilities at the airport and the potential for growth of jobs that they bring" said Mr Lachlan.

"Also impressive over the past year has been the leadership and determination shown by airport management in planning and preparing for the 2012 London Olympics, including the innovative heliport plan at Ebbsfleet that will enable the rapid transfer of passengers to and from the Olympic Park" Mr Lachlan said.

New companies with international operations recently established at Biggin Hill include Rizon Jet, PremiAir and Global Flight Solutions, enhancing the status of the airport as a multi-choice Service Centre and complementing the long-standing role at Biggin Hill of Jet Aviation, the General Dynamics-owned multi-national service organisation providing aircraft engineering, refurbishment, maintenance and fixed base operations.

Robert Walters, Business Development Manager for the airport said that clinching the top award for 2010-2011 has provided a massive boost for the staff.

"Winning this premier award demonstrates the effectiveness and dedication of our fantastic airport team, led by Airport Director Peter Lonergan. It provides the spur for us all to take this famous airport into a new era of development and opportunity" he said.

"Recognition of this kind that comes from within the industry carries a most special significance and we are grateful to the Airport Operators Association and to the British Business and General Aviation Association for the confidence shown in conferring the award to Biggin Hill Airport this year" Mr Walters said.
