Oriens Advisors, the aviation consultancy focused on the entry level jet value chain, is partnering with Barcelona based architectural company, Cesar Martinell & Associates, CM&A, to support business development of their innovative new airport construction concept. The Flexible Based Operations building has been designed for the aviation industry and is a semi-permanent structure offering the same facilities as a traditional FBO.
The modern and attractive building can be erected in as little as two weeks and has been designed to offer a high quality temporary structure that is flexible in size. The building can then be utilised for a number of years. Interested clients will be smaller airports, existing FBOs looking to expand their offering or who may urgently need a solution to handle more movements coinciding with events (for example, F1 races, the 2012 Olympics). The Flexible Based Operations structure can also enable operators looking to provide a seamless customer experience across a wide range of operating bases.
The building's design was inspired by the Gaudi school of architecture, combined with modern day technology. "It is the intelligent fusion of geometry, economy and technology," said Cesar Martinell, Chairman of CM&A. The structure incorporates a strong environmental element as it is built with recyclable materials. The power used is generated largely from solar panels that form the roof, and water can be recycled as needed. The shape of the building maximises the use of natural light, and the whole infrastructure contributes to reducing overall running costs and material waste.
"We have chosen to work with CM&A as their architectural track record is excellent. They have a long heritage with Gaudi and his subsequent scholars, and were integral in the design of technical solutions at the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao," commented Edwin Brenninkmeyer, CEO of Oriens. "With the increasing number of private airports upgrading their facilities, continued investment in airports around the world, and the development of Central and Eastern European military bases, we foresee a huge interest in the Flexible Based Operation facility,"
With the cost per square metre beginning at €850, the concept is now available to the market and has already received interest from a number of different areas including the aviation and events market.
